Root: The Underworld Expansion
What is Root: The Underworld Expansion?
Root: The Underworld Expansion adds two new asymmetric factions and two new maps to Root: A Game of Woodland Might and Right. It is designed by Leder Games and is fully compatible with all other Root expansions.
Publisher: Leder Games | Players: 2–6 | Age: 10+ | Play Time: 60–90 minutes | Game Type: Asymmetric strategy, area control, expansion
Requires the base game Root to play.
New Factions
- The Great Underground Duchy — an imperial faction that blends the Marquise’s engine-building flexibility with the Eyrie’s escalating momentum. They burrow through the earth and emerge to claim the Woodland.
- The Corvid Conspiracy — a secretive faction that plants plots directly into opponents’ hands, using deception and misdirection to score points and destabilize rivals.
New Maps
- Mountain Map — dig tunnels to move secretly across the board, creating new strategic pathways
- Lake Map — fight to control the ferry crossing, a powerful movement advantage in the centre of the map
Why Get the Underworld Expansion?
The Underworld Expansion is ideal for Root groups looking for fresh strategic depth. The two new maps dramatically change how movement and control work, while the Duchy and Corvids bring entirely new playstyles that reward different skills than the base factions.
